About Us

Every community strives to be safe. Dyersville is no exception. With the professionals in the Fire Department, citizens can know that their needs for safety and security are being taken care of by a committed group of people.

Department Structure

The Fire Department is completely staffed by volunteers, 40 in all. They are certified as Firefighter 1 through the Iowa Fire Service Training Program. The Dyersville Fire Department is the largest in Dubuque County and has been in existence over 100 years.

Responsibilities

The department covers:
  • EMS calls
  • Grass fires
  • Hazardous material spills
  • Service calls (carbon monoxide detectors, fire alarms)
  • Structural fires

Training

All members take training weekly on local, state and national levels.

The Fire Department serves residences, businesses and farmsteads in a 66-square mile area. They maintain seven fire vehicles/equipment (two pumper trucks, two tankers, one rescue unit, a brush truck, and a personal van). Funding for the Fire Department comes from the City of Dyersville, the Dyersville Community Fire Department (other nearby rural communities) plus the department's own fundraising efforts.

Additionally, emergency medical support comes from the Fire Department through Bi-County Ambulance. The Fire Department has 15 volunteers who are also trained as first responders and are trained to use the vehicle extrication tool owned by the department.
